This week our professor ask us to write a blog post in regards to what we have learned in class, as well as what we expected to learn from it.
As a Web Developer Senior you expect that “Emerging Technologies” would be just about the tools or a history lesson on creating the web. However this class discuss the broad term as it is but with a bit of a twist. Coming in to the discussion we started talking about a few technologies such as voice recognition or touchscreen. Once the discussions evolve the twist came when realizing how dependable we are of these technologies as well as the struggle of having them to begin with.
First week I was ready to dig into various software to create, manage, and/or edit web sites. Once discussions started happening all different kinds of technology such as 3D printing, virtual reality, and augmented reality. It was really exciting to talk about all this because; these are cool pieces of technology that are going to evolve into other markets rather than the ones they are in. At this point I realize that no matter what major you were in during this class, it relates to you. In one way or another, all this technologies came together from various places were it could apply to any career in technology.
And there lies what I learn and what I’m taking with me from this class. Every technology, every user input or interface is always connected in some way or another, as well as complementing each other. Some things were created for the need to help an existing technology or to solve a problem created from a particular gadget or interface. Moving forward, I think I would be more aware of other inputs and outputs of technology to allow my own career to grow in ways that perhaps I wouldn’t have seen.
Overall this class made you get up from your seat and stand up on your desk to look at things in a different way. Having a different or unconventional approach to things that you see daily, you learned to appreciate them better as well as understanding with more depth. Connecting you with more industries that, perhaps may not apply to you but they do. As well as to consider or get inspire by the technologies that are around you, because you might end up working with it or for it.
